MigraineSignal

Privacy Policy

Effective November 1, 2026

MigraineSignal is a migraine diary app made by Robert Brady ("we", "us"). The short version: your health logs stay on your phone. There is no account, we don't receive your logs, there are no ads or trackers, and we never sell or share health data.

What stays on your phone

Everything you log is stored only in the app's private storage on your device, protected by your phone's built-in encryption: attacks (times, severity, side, aura, symptoms, notes, what you said), medicines and relief answers, daily check-ins, factors, period days, imported sleep, and per-day air-pressure summaries. We never receive a copy. It is not stored in iCloud.

Voice

When you log by voice, speech is turned into text on your iPhone using Apple's on-device speech recognition. The app requires on-device recognition, so the audio is not sent to Apple's servers or to us, and the audio is discarded as soon as it has been turned into text. If your device can't recognize speech on the device, the app offers typing instead. No AI service receives what you say.

Location and weather

If you allow it, the app reads your approximate location and rounds it to about 11 km (one decimal place of latitude/longitude). Only that rounded point is kept, on your phone. To get air pressure and weather, the app sends the rounded point to our weather service, which passes it to Apple WeatherKit (or, if that is unavailable, Open-Meteo). The request contains no identifier and nothing about your health. We don't log these requests. You can turn this off in Settings, which also forgets the rounded point.

Apple Health

If you connect Apple Health, the app reads your sleep (read-only) to show how sleep lined up with your logs. It never writes to Health. Health data is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and never shared. You can disconnect in the app (which deletes imported sleep) and revoke access in iPhone Settings › Health.

Research news

The news screen downloads a small list of headlines from our website. Nothing about you is sent. Opening a headline takes you to the original source's website, which has its own privacy policy.

Purchases

Premium is sold through the App Store; Apple handles payment. We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active. RevenueCat receives a random app user ID and your purchase details. It does not receive any health data. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.

What we do not do

Backups and deletion

Because your logs exist only on your phone, deleting the app deletes them. In the app, More › Your data lets you save a backup file (you choose where it goes), export a spreadsheet, restore a backup, or delete everything at once. Deleting data does not cancel a subscription; cancel it in your Apple ID settings.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example California, Washington, or other US states) you may have rights to access, delete, or export your data, and to withdraw consent. Since we hold none of your health logs, you can do all of this yourself in the app. For anything we might hold (such as an email you send us), email us; we answer within 30 days, and asking never changes how the app works for you. See also our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.

Security and breaches

Your logs are protected by your device's encryption and never leave it. Our services use encrypted connections. If a security breach ever exposed personal or health information we hold, we would notify affected people, and regulators such as the US Federal Trade Commission, as the law requires.

Age

MigraineSignal is for adults 18 and older. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
